About us

Windmill Aviation Services exists mainly for the purpose of providing ‘Pilot Medicals’ to anyone who has found me on the website and requires an ‘Aviation Medical’. Naturally, when l started many years ago, most of the pilots flew in Kent and surrounding areas. I was fortunate and am very grateful that, in several cases, the majority of pilots from some locations chose to come to me and have continued to do so. Lately l been equally pleased that pilots from much more distant areas have come for their ‘Pilot Medicals’.

I perform my ‘Aviation Medicals’ in my home at the top of the hill overlooking the seaside town of Whitstable. I am able to do Class One, Class Two, European Class Three (ATCO) and LAPL medicals. I have a dedicated surgery with all the equipment necessary to performing a full ‘ Aviation Medical’ which might include an ECG ( using a CAA approved machine which reads the results as required), a hospital grade audiometer for hearing tests in necessary (Class 1 pilots, ATCO’s and PPL’s who are ‘instrument rated’), a machine which measures haemoglobin (to detect anaemia) from a finger prick and facility for more extensive blood work when required (Class 1 pilots need a Lipid (Cholesterol) on or around their 40th birthday.

Privacy is assured and my home is always quiet. I have just established a personal flight simulator in my living room and pilots are welcome to view, comment, advise and, when it is fully set up, share the experience if they wish. I also do other medicals on request. I am very familiar with HGV medicals (under new rules, glasses wearers need to see an optician at some time) and have recently bought a new eye chart to reflect the new (increased) requirement. Although clearly less need in Whitstable, at my Heathrow office l do all manner of ‘aviation related medicals’ such as ; Airside Driving, Run up and Taxi, Confined Space as well as BT engineer pole climbing medicals, New Zealand Immigration, Racing Driver and Executive Medicals.

I am able to provide a relaxed environment giving an opportunity to talk about flying, a love of mine, as well as the medical aspects. My phone, if l am not there is constantly diverted to my mobile so that pilots with any queries can ring with any question, worry or concern about their Aviation Medical of their fitness to fly. I also prefer the personal approach to booking appointments.
